Why Choose Sage Dental Care for Tooth-Colored Fillings?

What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Dentist treats patient

Until recently, dentists almost always provided fillings using a substance called amalgam which was made from a blend of different metals. While this was an effective way to treat tooth decay, these fillings were an unnatural shade of dark gray and clearly visible when patients smiled or laughed. Today, our offices in Reno use tooth-colored composite resin to treat tooth decay. This allows teeth to be restored to much of their original strength while blending in seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

We can usually place a tooth-colored filling in a single appointment. Our dentist will numb the tooth and the surrounding area with a local anesthetic or administer an appropriate form of sedation if needed. Then, they will clean and prepare your tooth for treatment before removing any decayed structure from it. The dentist will then place a small amount of tooth-colored composite resin and shape this putty-like material to match the natural curves of the tooth. After this, they will harden it with a special ultraviolet light, resulting in a stunning restoration that can last for more than a decade with excellent care.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are durable, comfortable, and beautiful restorations that blend in seamlessly with your natural smile. While composite resin is already close to the natural color of enamel, our team will carefully shade it so that it perfectly matches the hue of your smile. Composite resin also doesn’t change shape in response to temperature, making it less likely to stress or crack a tooth than amalgam. Since composite resin bonds directly with the enamel, a tooth-colored filling can directly support your tooth’s structure while minimizing the amount of enamel that must be removed.
